Context

Jesus' last words to his apostles before he ascends into heaven (1:9). They have asked whether he will now restore the kingdom to Israel (1:6); he answers that the timing is not theirs to know (1:7), then promises the Holy Spirit and gives them a mission. The verse outlines the book of Acts itself: witness in Jerusalem (chapters 1–7), then Judea and Samaria (8–12), then to the ends of the earth (13–28).
